Today the Detroit City Council announced the redistricting plan that was required by the new City Charter. Four options were proposed by the council, and a fifth was proposed by Data Driven Detroit
(we'll call them D3). D3 used data and statistics to draft their own map of where council districts should fall
Despite the data, city council has chosen "Option 3" of their redistricting plan:
This plan splits downtown into two separate districts among other things.
How do you feel about the redistricting? Many people I follow are not thrilled with this plan. There have been accusations of gerrymandering and self-serving.
