Re: Sullivan House: Renovation Log
I assume they also installed downspouts to route the water away from the foundation once it hits the ground?Yes. One of them crosses the pathway to walk between the houses (terminating in the front yard), so that'll need to be converted to an underground tile at some point. The one in the backyard is likely to become a rain barrel.
They also gave me a quick lesson in drilling out the downspout rivets so they can be removed for painting, and gave me a bag of extra rivets to replace them afterward. They also provided (per my request) a few extra pieces of downspout for when one inevitably gets crushed underfoot.

Re: Sullivan House: Renovation Log
On Tuesday the rain gutters were installed, all the masonry repairs in the basement were done, we removed the rest of the toilet from the basement, and Aaron continued removing vines from the fence. Yesterday the dumpster was hauled away and Aaron came up with a design for rail post caps for the front and side entrances.
I noticed water escaping between the roof and the new gutters on the north side during the rain (site of a preexisting leak), and they're returning tomorrow to investigate.

Re: Sullivan House: Renovation Log
This past weekend (Aaron, me, Brian, Nicole, and Kyle):
- Shoveled muck out of street and alley (unbelievable amount)
- Raked out beds, front yard, and parking strip down south side
- Cut back ivy off sidewalk, fence, and side of house
- Removed ivy from the corner of the front yard
- Removed vines from south side hedges
- Removed last header & stud from basement wall (wedged into place)
- Removed more wires & electrical conduit from basement
- Brian & Nicole continued basement pipe insulation (finished third roll)
- Reworked backyard bed placement
Dumpster is now full.
Gutter installation and basement repairs are both scheduled for Tuesday.

Lincoln at Ignite Detroit
In September, I gave an Ignite Detroit presentation. If you're unfamiliar, an Ignite event is a series of talks that are exactly 5 minutes long, and your slide deck changes every 15 seconds, ready or not. I did mine on deciding to move into Detroit, of course.
I quoted $11,000 in there as the amount Icrontians have contributed. I believe it's more like $15,000 now.

Re: Sullivan House: Renovation Log
Spring is here!
Today I was all alone - and then Dave came by! I knew I could find more stuff for him to do.
He started work on installing a pub porch light and helped me yank a bunch more useless wires in the basement (including 2 knob-and-tube lines that went nowhere). I almost cut the thermostat lines
I cleaned the rest of the junk out of the basement in preparation for hosing it down. Luckily I elected to wear a face mask - it was black when I was done.
Yesterday, I hauled all the giant pile of clay blocks (imagine 6x size bricks shaped like stones) out of the backyard and turned them into bed liners in the front yard. I also filled 2 trashcans of debris from the backyard, and stacked pavers & bricks under the kitchen porch steps.
This kids brought the first 20 bricks from the attic down to the yard.
Came up with design ideas for the basement and backyard. It's gonna be so good.

@Ryder You can't imagine how much I've learned about (and spent on) lightbulbs trying to minimize my wattage.
